Tsarnaev was apprehended but killed during the gunfight, according to the federal indictment, partially as a result of his brother driving over him, and an MBTA police officer was gravely injured during Dzhokhar’s escape in the SUV.
His older brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, placed a bomb that killed Krystle Campbell, 29, of Arlington.
The brothers also killed MIT police officer Sean Collier while they were on the run after the bombings.

“The 26-year-old man who the police think is one of two brothers who carried out the Boston Marathon bombing, according to his death certificate, died of gunshot wounds and brutal trauma,” The New York Times said.
On April 18, Mr. Tsarnaev was killed in a gunfight with police officers after a chase. Officials say the siblings tossed bombs at police and exchanged gunfire before Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, hopped back into the car and drove away, allegedly striking his elder brother.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev was born in the RSFSR’s North Caucasus province, the Kalmyk Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (now Kalmykia). He was an American permanent resident, a Russian citizen, and a Kyrgyzstani national.
