Shark Tank I Want To Draw a Cat For You sold out year in advance after ‘favorite’ pitch Fri 5 January 2024 02:40 Helen Williams

When Steve Gadlin stepped out in front of the Shark Tank investors, no one could have predicted what his I Want To Draw a Cat For You pitch would involve.

Steve’s pitch is certainly one that went down in Shark Tank history as his niche idea was teamed with a catchy song – and an accompanying dance. The web developer’s “exciting” pitch caught the attention of investors and had ABC viewers at home in stitches. Despite their criticisms, Steve is still coming through with the cat drawings in 2024.

I Want To Draw a Cat For You on Shark Tank

When Steve Gadlin first appeared on Shark Tank, he described himself as a “normal guy,” who worked as a web developer by day and conjured up the idea of drawing cats for people as a business idea while on the toilet.

Throwing it all the way back to 2012, Steve pitched his idea to the Sharks during season 3.

After saying: “Music maestro, hit it,” Steve broke into song and dance with the words: “…for the low, low price of just 10 grand you get a quarter of my company, understand?”

Steve lands an investment

After performing his I Want To Draw a Cat For You song, the illustrator said there “is an economy for stupid,” and he’s “overflowing with it.”

Over a decade ago, Steve explained he sold cat drawings for $9.95 and made a $9.32 profit per piece.

He added he could knock out 1,000 cat drawings per week and wanted to “dabble” in greeting cards in the future.

Steve’s “billion-dollar idea” sparked something in Mark Cuban who decided to invest $25,000 for a 33 per cent stake in the company.

I Want To Draw a Cat For You is still going

Since Shark Tank fans last saw the ‘cat drawing guy’ on TV, it appears his business has gone from strength to strength.

In more recent years, Steve has transitioned from drawing his cats on paper to opting for digital illustrations.

Per the Shark Tank star’s website, he now charges $25 per cat drawing and draws one per day.

Steve writes: “Due to continued demand, I am sold out for about one full year in advance. I’m very sorry, but I promise it will be worth the wait!”

He was also drawing cats on Cameo, but it looks like the service is currently unavailable.

Taking to Instagram last June, Steve shared some customer feedback. Someone wrote him a DM saying their husband proposed to them via a cat drawing and now they’re looking to have a baby announcement drawing created. He captioned the post: “Proud to continue playing an important role in the lives of strangers everywhere!”
